And what will 2007 bring?

A year ago I wrote a wish-list for 2006.

One year on,

  • Iraq has got worse. At least Rumsfeld is out and Bush is talking about a “new strategy”.
  • The Palestinians are no closer to getting their homeland.
  • Koizumi has gone. Abe, after a promising start, appears to be shooting himself in the foot. But maybe there will be some progress on China-Japan ties in 2007
  • North Korea set off its bomb test in 2006. With Kim Jong Il still in place, things will only get worse.
  • Trade protectionism is still alive and well. It is becoming clear that China will have the most impact on reducing poverty in Africa. The West had its chance and the farmer lobbies were too strong.

For 2007, I still wish for the same things as last year. But at least we are one year closer to Bush’s removal. Why hasn’t he been impeached yet? What about all the lies to congress? What about all the deaths in Iraq? C’mon America, what were you thinking?

Happy New Year, everyone.
