Assessment choices

Not every assessment in schools has to be test or an essay. Some other choices:

  • plan and organise an event,
  • require a creative work,
  • write an autobiography,
  • create a banner,
  • write a book review,
  • create a brochure,
  • write a cartoon series,
  • make a collage,
  • conduct a debate or courtroom trial,
  • make a video
  • create a Website (or blog or wiki)
  • play the stockmarket (or forex) with “virtual” money

I’ve had students who said (when faced with these choices), “Just give us a test. It takes less time.”
