Easy email feeds with Feedblitz
Let’s face it, RSS aggregators are a great idea, but most people don’t get it. You nearly always have to explain what they are, how they work and how to get the feed. I even felt the need to explain the RSS feeds here on my own site.
But Feedblitz has a good solution, I feel. They turn the XML-based feed into an email and that’s what readers can subscribe to. As they say…
…only 11% of Internet users are using RSS aggregators
So you’ll notice the “Easy email feed” on the right of each page. Feel free to subscribe (it’s an easy one-step process). Let me know how it goes.
Footnote: I am wary of HTML emails and these days I prefer plain text. There are too many variables with HTML email, like headers, page widths, images (which are blocked by many mail programs), font sizes, blocked Flash SWFs and so on. I nearly always click on the link: “If you cannot see this mail properly, click here.” This takes you to an ordinary Web page, where everything works properly. Seems to me that it would be better to send out a simple text-based mail with a link to the actual Web page.
Anyway, this Feedblitz thingy appears to produce a simple mail. We’ll see how it goes.
