Friday math movie – Biology Meets Mathematics
Biologists tend not to like math. I had a group of biology students in a calculus class of mine a few years ago – their math anxiety was palpable.
This movie from the University of Nottingham gives an overview of a meeting where mathematicians try to help biologists solve problems. The movie mentions mathematical modeling – where you come up with a set of equations to describe some natural phenomena.
Unfortunately, we don’t get any details on exactly what biological problems are being addressed (apart from that is is something to do with skin cell growth and repair), nor do we get a sense of how well the models replicate the real-world data.
