This week’s movie is actually a whole series on math, called Math Illuminated from Annenberg Media.

The series won a WebVisionary Award in the education category at the WebVisions Conference held in Portland, Oregon.

I can’t embed any of the movies here, since they are only accessible behind a password. You can sign up for free.

From the blurb:

Mathematics Illuminated is a thirteen-part series for adult learners and high school teachers. The series explores major themes in the field of mathematics, from humankind’s earliest study of prime numbers, to the cutting-edge mathematics used to reveal the shape of the universe.

Topics in the series:

* 1 The Primes
* 2 Combinatorics Counts
* 3 How Big is Infinity?
* 4 Topology’s Twists and Turns
* 5 Other Dimensions
* 6 The Beauty of Symmetry
* 7 Making Sense of Randomness
* 8 Geometries Beyond Euclid
* 9 Game Theory
* 10 Harmonious Math
* 11 Connecting with Networks
* 12 In Sync
* 13 The Concepts of Chaos

Check out Math Illuminated.

Update: Annenberg’s site is sometimes irritating, since it has usability issues. Also, many of the videos are not available outside the US or Canada.
