NUS Open House 2008 - it may harm your computer

Now this is rather embarrassing for the National University of Singapore (NUS).

I was looking for their 2008 Open House information and a Google of “nus open house” brought up the following result:

NUS Open House - bad for your computer

When you click on the link, you get the following Google warning:

NUS Open House - Google warning

I didn’t recognise the joinus.sg URL, so I didn’t try it. Is it a legitimate NUS site?

I still don’t know when the NUS Open House is…

Ha - how hopeless is that?

Educational institutions have pretty terrible websites. I suppose they teach web design - or maybe they don’t.

I wonder what “badware” was on the site?

Hello Jaz. The link you gave is the one that Google has decided will “harm your computer.”

That’s the one that I did NOT want to follow.

Dear zac and readers of this blog,

I’m Wee Peng, webmaster of NUS. We’ve worked with Google to clear the website. If you do a search for “nus open house” now, you won’t see the warning message anymore. So sorry for the confusion.

Some quick info about the Open House for those interested:

    NUS Open House
Date: 15 March (Sat) to 16 March (Sun) 2008
    Time: 9am – 6pm
Venue: Sports & Recreation Centre, Kent Ridge Campus

For more details, please visit http://joinus.sg/openhouse (yes, it’s safe ;-)).

If you have any more problems with the website, please email me at webmaster@nus.edu.sg. Thanks.

Hi Wee Peng and thanks for your update and for the information.

As a matter of interest, why did the ‘badware’ warning sign appear?

    Dear zac,

Google does not provide any detail report, so I can only deduce that the version which Google indexed in early Feb is dubious. I’m still checking.

But, the search giant has did a recent review and gave http://joinus.sg/openhouse a clean bill of health. I intend to keep it that way :-)

Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention, zac.
