Websg’s first meeting
Recently I attended the inaugural meeting of Singapore’s Web standards group (Websg - get it?).
Others have written about who said what, so I won’t repeat any of that.
It is great to know that at least there is a small dedicated group of people who care about Web standards and are trying to do something about it. I think it will be easier to get clients on board with Web standards when the Singapore government becomes convinced - and requires compliance for its own sites (both for accessibility and general HTML standards.)
We introduced ourselves. The introduction that struck me most was by the guy who was really struggling with the time it takes to get compliant pages to work in all browsers. Yes, that is a pain, but once you are over the learning curve, it becomes quicker and easier.
I didn’t get to talk to very many people at the informal gathering at the end. Hopefully next time.
Good luck, Websg! I hope I can contribute in some way.
